side boards on war ships

Postby Graham Ashford » Mon Mar 09, 2015 9:00 am

Hi there

I wonder if anyone can help. In continuing to look at crockery aboard RN ships of the line. I noticed that in a number of pictures a 'side board' is shown above the tables between the guns. when the guns are ready for action they are never seen and it would seem a lot of effort and space would be required putting them up and taking them down. Does anyone know whether they truly existed or not?

Do they not just disappear behind the table when it is folded up?
