1715 Battle of Preston

Postby Lankylad » Wed Jan 28, 2015 5:13 pm

Hello everybody

Are there any re-enactment groups in Northwest England that specialise in Jacobites and Government troops in the early 18th century? This year is the 300th anniversary of the above battle.

Hi,
As far as Government troops are concerned you have: http://queensregiment.co.uk/

Only formed last year, covering the period from 1705 to 1720. We don't have any members in your area, most of us are Midlands and southern based.
If your interested, get in touch.
Cheers,
Derek

Hi Derek

Many thanks for the information. I'll pass it on to the committee dealing with the commemoration of the battle. They'll be really impressed with your website and the brilliant pictures on Facebook of the re-enactment of King George's accession in 1714.

It makes you think, though. His reign could have been cut very short indeed, if the 1715 battle had gone the other way and the Jacobite rebels had broken out of Preston!

Lankylad,

Your right, but the whole Jacobite cause was so mis-managed I'm not sure they could have got their act together!

Anyway, If you can let me know what dates the committee are looking at that would be good. We are in the middle of sorting out the year ahead, and a lot of us are in other re-enactment groups as well, so our year is filling up fast!

cheers
Derek

Hi Derek

The battle was in November but I don't think the committee will want to stage a big outdoor event in the uncertain weather at that time of year, so it would be much earlier than that. I'll get in touch with you when I know something definite. It may all depend on what funds/sponsors we can attract.

Thanks for your interest.

Hi Lankylad. I run a living history company and we cover a number of centuries. If you need some Scots accents and highland clansmen in authentic highland attire we can help. We have some match lock and flintlock muskets as well as some uniforms similar to the Queens regiment depicted on your post...Queens Regiment...very nice pictures indeed

Best wishes, Hugh, Living History Scotland ltd

An event to mark the 1715 battle of Preston has been organised!!

The event to commemorate the 1715 Battle of Preston will take place on the 18th / 19th July at Hoghton Towers, Preston

There will be LH camps on the Tilt Yard in front of the castle depicting both Government and Jacobite troops as well as drill displays etc in the walled garden.

Later in the year, on the 14th / 15th November there will be a memorial service in the church to mark the anniversary.

Cheers

Commemoration of the 300th Anniversary of the 1715 Battle of Preston.

Many thanks to The Queen's Regiment from the people of Preston.

We really enjoyed your fascinating demonstrations at the Minster on Saturday; and your presence at the Commemorative Service in the Minster on Sunday added great poignancy to the proceedings. The memorable re-enactment of charging the barricades in the streets was thrilling and very spectacular.

It would be hard to find a more good-natured, patient group of people, with such a ready smile for everyone. You've made lots of friends in the city.

There are pictures and stories of the events on Blog Preston:

Hope to see you again at Hoghton Tower next year!

Lankylad,

Many thanks for your kind message, we really enjoyed ourselves as well! Great to meet you and share your enthusiasm for the 1715 Battle of Preston!

It would be great to come back next year, lets see if we can get more Jacobites along to put on a bit of a Skirmish!
