Hello chaps,
I have a production of "Blackadder Goes Forth" coming up in April. Currently, we have a company willing to hire us kit at £80 / uniform / day. This works out at a tad under £500 for each character for a week. That's a hellish expense for an amateur drama group
Obviously it's a "looks OK at a distance" level, not full Major-General's Inspection I'm after.
I've seen these chaps online: http://www.paddelaters.com/ww1-wwI-british.php, and wondered if anyone here knows anything about them, or can recommend a supplier of off-the-peg WW1 officers' kit?
Thanks in advance,
Cad

Never used Paddelaters so no comment.
Oh What A Lovely War was the play of the year in 2014 as the centenary of the opening of WW1. There must be several costumieres with a set of WW1 costumes not flavour of this year.

Two older threads on Paddelaters: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=36267&p=370783&hilit=Paddelaters#p370783 and viewtopic.php?f=3&t=33082&p=353363&hilit=Paddelaters#p353363. I can't comment on them myself, as I have never dealt with them.

Try Hamish. Dunno what he charges, a commercial rate I'm sure, but worth an ask. www.history-making.com

This is Am Dram, you don't need to buy the uniforms they'll be no use later OWALW is back to back catalogue as 2014, 100 anniversary of ww1, has passed. There must be dozens of prop hire firms who made costume for OWALW who would like another hire for the uniforms hire at thespis.biz may be a start but I've never used them.

£80 per day is exorbitant. Ask here http://www.harveysofhove.co.uk/ they specialise in sets of costume for Oh What a Lovely War, Journeys End etc and will be no-where near that. I'd charge a bit more than that for one week, then a reducing scale for any other part weeks thereof. I 'm not big on WW1 but do have some.
Can i ask how you have cleared doing this with BBC and the writers?

http://www.griffinhistorical.com. A delicious decadent historical trifle. Thick performance jelly topped with lashings of imaginative creamy custard. You may also get a soggy event management sponge finger but it won't cost you hundreds and thousands.
