My name's Gina Kennedy and I’m posting because in under two weeks RAF Winkleigh's Control Tower (Scheduled Monument 1366823) is being sold at auction. It's been derelict since 1990 and I've started a campaign to raise the money to buy it, so that it can be restored and turned into a Living History museum.
I’ve been involved with various Living History sites for over a decade, and have worked in the tourism industry for longer than that. In addition, for the last two years I have been working at a Scheduled Ancient Monument in Devon, so I’m familiar with the challenges we’re likely to face in this project.
Despite only launching this week, we’ve already had some really great media coverage already, including a front page piece by local paper, the Crediton Gazette, an online piece by the North Devon Journal, print articles promised by Exeter's Express & Echo, the North Devon Journal, and the Okehampton Times. BBC Spotlight is also interested in doing a piece on the campaign.
The RAF Winkleigh Control Tower is an important piece of history, and I strongly believe that with your help, we can save and restore it. I ask that you please tell everyone you know about the plight of this historical building. To support and share, please visit http://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/save-winkleigh-tower or just get talking about it on your Facebook or Twitter feeds.
Thanks for your support!
