Help sought sourcing WW1 Highland Regiment dress uniform

Postby simonw » Tue May 21, 2013 1:26 pm

I am particularly interested in sourcing Seaforth Highlanders (8th to be exact) dress uniform of an ordinary soldier.
This was my grandfathers regiment.
I'm also trying to source a history of this regiment. There is little direct info on the net or the relevant WW1 blogs.
With thanks in advance

Simon, I did get your message, but have kept getting distracted from sending a reply.

It's a difficult question to answer. My own WW1 Seaforth kit is based on the 1st and 2nd Battalions, but often with Scottish regiments the higher a battalion number is the further their dress differs in the detail to the regulars (eg the 5th Seaforth with their wildcat capbadge over "Sans Peur" instead of the normal stags head over "Cuidich n Righ").

I've linked a thread below I started on the Great War Forum on the kit of the 2nd Seaforths. Not the 8th I know, but might be a good thing to start with:

Thanks very much for all of this. Any pointers to whom can supply the stuff would be appreciated.

Are you looking to do a bit of reenacting or just getting the kit together?

Possibly both, possibly just because I want it, possibly because I'm writing a play about him.

Thanks for the replies so far...

If you ever fancy coming out to play with us check out the website for our events.
After hours there are Camerons, Black Watch, Royal Marines etc so there would be plenty of opportunity for you to wear the kit and swap stories :)

It is always good to work with other groups.
I doubt that I will be there myself, trying to move house season kinda kills the odd event or two. I will, however, be at the Yorkshire Wartime Experience in our humble little trench. Being shot at and gassed by Germans :)
