Source for good quality WW1 Nurses Uniform?

Can anyone suggest a supplier of a decent quality WW1 Nurses uniform?

I have seen a couple of suppliers on ebay etc. But their products are far closer to the fancy dress end of the market than a decent quality re-enactor item.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

M

Is making your own out of the question? I went into the stores at St Fagans recently to have a look at some originals with a view to making myself one next year sometime, and the hardest part I think will be tracking down a good match for the fabric. The stripes on the ones I looked at made my eyes go quite funny!

Depends on what branch of nursing you are after, TFNS, VAD, Red Cross etc
one of the girls in our group has done a good amount of research on the subject.

feel free to get in touch.
If you have good patterns, pictures etc then most tailors will be able to source the material for you.
Can I recommend a friend, http://eastessextailoring.com/
Good luck.

There are no good 'off the peg' Great War nurses uniforms. I have the tailors drafts from a wartime dept. store.

Any particular branch of nursing that interests her? Loads of VAD and QA around, nice to see something different..I currently do Canadian and it's a nice uniform with lots of Canadian sisters serving in the UK and abroad.

Thanks for all suggestions, they are all appreciated.

Dixie,

I was going to ask Ailsa next time I saw her, but was hoping to get something sorted before next year for my Mrs. I'll get Adam to drop her a line via facebook as I don't do it.

Ailsa has done a good bit of work on various uniforms and has lots of pictures for research.
all the best.
