They have been hanging around my Mum's house since Rueb's wife died and I've often wondered (but not enough to learn German) There are 2 of them, one has a gold oak leaf and one has a (now) blackish oak leaf

Because there would have to be three of them.

Thanks.

I couldn't get sharper pics of them to load - the image is to big (apparently) So you can't make the hand writing out. It seems they were sent to from Lubeck on June 15th 1945 by a guy called Rueben Nind who was in the RAF - he sent the gold one to his son and the other to his parents.

Looks like they could be some sort of sports award, going from the bit I can translate...

"If I am a fool it is, at least, a doubting one; and I envy no-one the certainty of his self-approved wisdom".

These are award booklets for NSRL sports achievements held in Lubeck. They have nothing to do with the Olympic Games.

Info about the NSRL can be found here:

Hope this helps?

Cheers, Lez.

Thanks all, my mum always called them the birthday cards and my dad said they were produced as "souveniers" for the allied troops to send home... Rueb had filled in the blanks with his own bits so I thought they were probably prizes given out to kids or something.

(just have to try to work out what sports they were for now)

These cards were for any sport. You just had to fill in the blanks.

Cheers, Lez.
