Victorian Era - birthday celebrations?

Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone here knows how birthdays were celebrated during the Victorian Era? I've been able to find some information about children's birthdays, but none on how adults celebrated (if at all) their birthdays. I'm mostly looking for info on upper-middle/upperclass. :)

Birthday cards were very popular, but there tended not to be much in the way of formal celebrations (parties etc) after the 21st birthday.
