Great Game

Post by Wolfshead »

Hi
I'm interested if there are any groups covering the great game period, I believe I saw some info a few years back, that there was a group. It is a part of history I'm fascinated with and would appreciate any info or links to any current groups.

I'm a member of the 19th Foot, reenacting the Crimean War http://www.19thfoot.co.uk

We don't have any russians (the kits too pricey) but we now have a 11th hussars detachment that appear alongside us.

Yes I'm normally in Viking groups and have now left the uk, but plan to come back a few times a year. So I was looking at the options for joining a new group or at least attending a few events while back. The idea of the members involved in the great game appealed to me as a total change.
The flexibility on no uniform as such and equipment being appropriate for period but not fixed I thought might be interesting.

You've got me wondering if I am the only person out there that does'nt know what the great game is
am I the only one brave enough to ask or is everyone else as baffled as me?

The Great Game is the name that comes from the book Kim, used to describe the men involved in the gathering of intelligence and exploring central Asia in mainly the Victorian era. It mainly involved Britain and Russia and the expansion of their two empires and where they met, ie afganistan etc ( sound familiar to today).
