17th century terminology

Postby Donhumphrioni » Fri Jun 30, 2017 9:56 am

I am currently researching history of a building but would like advice re terminology in a source dated 1628.
Does the word PARISH mean THE CHURCH with regards to land ownership as there was no other body to act as trustee for land gifted to " the parish".
Also, are the terms "free school" and "church school" the same when referring to 17th century educational establishments
