17th century pole arm maker?
having recently acquired an original 17th century type pole arm, i am being driven batty by the lack of info on makers of arms in the period, does anyone know of a maker called lowson? a nice deep mostly rectangular stamp.

At the risk of sounding negative, a stamp of the sort you describe sounds far more C19th/20th to me than C17th...
Re: 17th century pole arm maker?
no worries, the stamp is similiar to ones i have seen on period naval arms of the late 17th century while at armouries, its just an obscure name thats bugging me, the arm is of a shape and pattern usually not in use after 1700 and isnt a victorian copy, thought i would see if it was familiar to anyone here before taking it to see an associate at local museum who was edged weapon specialist at tower, the trip in is a bit of a haul,
