Recusant as a daily orator

Postby Cretorian » Fri Feb 22, 2013 5:23 am

I am transcribing a correspondance letter detailing a proceeding of a suit held at the Court of Exchequer to the Honorable John Bishop of Lincoln, Lord Keeper of the Great Seal of England, dated 1624. I am not very familiar with these given titles and their actual implications.
As transcribed:

To the Honorable John Bishop of Lincoln Lord
Keeper of the Great Seal of England

Humbly showing unto your good lordship your daily orator Beverly BRYTTEN of London Esquire, and Dame Johan ASHBY his wife, late widow of Sir Francis ASHBY knight and Baronet, that whereas your oratrix the said Dame Johan ASHBY....

In regards to both Beverley and Johan in relation to the Bishop of Lincoln:
"Your daily orator" What does that entail exactly? What are their duties and/or personal relations to a bishop?
"your oratrix" What is her relationship to the Bishop?

Any ideas?

Orator is similar in meaning to beadsman: one who prays for his patron's continued good health.

Orator and Oratrix can also be the male & female titles of the plaintiff or petitioner in a case in a Court of Chancery.
