Elizabeth I:a living icon or a blasphemous idol?

Postby rachelred38 » Fri Apr 12, 2013 1:09 pm

Hi All,

I am a 38 year old mother of two studying History, in my third year, in the process of completing my dissertation on Elizabeth I. I have chosen this title 'Elizabeth I:a living icon or a blasphemous idol?' based upon a quote by Regina Schulte, because I have spent many years reading everything I can on Elizabethan History as Elizabeth I has become a bit of an enigma to me. I have organized and participated in living history banquets over the years and am interested in your opinions of Elizabeth I, the woman behind the image. I have created a survey with 10 multiple choice questions online and would really appreciate it if you could complete my survey before the end of April 2013 so that I could include your thoughts in my dissertation. As a fellow living History enthusiast, your opinions matter the most to me, as we inspire the next generation to embrace history by making it exciting!
It is for this reason that I embarked upon my history degree. Teaching History will allow me to inspire pupils to learn about history by reenacting as well as the usual research routes. Without us, history would be dismissed as boring by many. so please let me know your thoughts.

My survey is: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/G33SVTR

I look forward to reading your views,

Rachel Red

That sounds like my kind of dissertation!

I will see if I can get to your survey shortly (a bit awkward for me on mobile at present), it sounds very interesting!
I have also ead a great deal about Elizabeth, from her character to her clothes! (Amazing book, now I think out of print, about her wardrobe). I'm sure you will have seen this http://www.luminarium.org/renlit/departure.htm but I thought I would post it - personally, I think that the first stanza in particular could be said to reveal something about how she saw herself.

Best of luck!
