Are you a noblewoman from the early 12th century?

Postby Henri De Ceredigion » Mon Sep 07, 2015 11:54 pm

A friend of mine from the United States is currently writing a biography of Empress Matilda of England (1102 - 1167) and is looking for a photograph of a noblewoman dressed in period costume to make a cover for her book. Is there anyone who is able is help and if so, please post an example of their clothing?

You are really looking for something several long steps above "noblewoman"; Matilda continued to style herself Empress long after she lost that status and her appearance would have reflected this. The very highest quality imported silks, embroidered shoes, furs like vair, gris and ermine, jewellery and crown would all have featured. This is a contemporary depiction to give you an idea:

Eleanor McGann of Feudals has an Eleanor of Aquitaine persona that may fit the bill (she is on the right in this image). PM me for contact details.
