Re: Leaking Tent

I've done some testing of my own and found that nylon bursts into flame immediately but I had to hold a naked flame onto normal tent canvas for 10 seconds before it reached a flash point and burst into flame.

Re: Tax. Are you registered?

Right. Phoned up the tax people and they said to keep a record of how much profit I make on anything I sell then phone and tell them about it at the end of each year. They would alter my tax code accordingly.

Re: Tax. Are you registered?

I was told that I should not worry about tax if I received under a certain amount in a year. But i'm looking into this more carefully now as I don't want you guys getting annoyed with me :-) .
Is there a catagory for people who sell items as a hobby like I do?

Re: Tax. Are you registered?

I have had the website for over 2 years now and not sold anything from it, I think i'll turn it into a blog instead. I'll look into the business side of things but i'm not interested in doing leatherwork as self employed.

Re: Tax. Are you registered?

This has got me worried. I go to events dressed as a chapman or itinerant trader and have belts etc hanging off my basket. I don't go with the purpose of selling them, but if someone does i'm happy. I'm lucky if I make £60 over three events. Do I have to register for tax etc?

I agree Kate, I was just being devils advocate :-)
I buy Jims pots whenever i need something made right and authentic, simply because i've known him a long time and he does this for a living not like some people who rip off work without any research at all.

Re: How Rude!!!

Not wanting to cause trouble, but would it be ok for Jim to monopolise the medieval pot making industry? Other people make pots too and I'm sure they are just as good as Jims? Unless you patent or copyright a design then people are free to use that design.

I've been told I'm cruel and evil for having a stuffed rabbit hanging from my trading backpack. I usually say it hung there for three hours before it died. That usually sends them away or over the edge. ]:)

Hi there. First I would kill the mildew with white vinegar and scub it with it too. Next I would use a solution of a product called OXI to remove the stain a bit more if not completely. Give it a good rince with warm water after. I've used this on many canvas bags that have got dirty and have had mi...

Re: Arming points

Hi there. Not that I know as much as you guys, but would goatskin thonging be used as points? I've found it to be tough enough to hold anything on and have given some to a suited reenactor when his lucetted points failed. Plaited and waxed linen seems a good idea too.
