17th Century Sea Farers Jerky

This is probably one for Martin but I’m thinking of trying to make a spice mix up to make authentic jerky for ships rations and was wandering if anyone had an idea of what herbs and spices I should use since I presume my usual mix of garlic and chilly with Soya sauce wouldn’t of exist back in 17th c...

Converting great coat to Frock Coat??

I was wandering is it possible to convert a old Great Coat into a 17th Century Frock Coat since from the pictures I’ve seen they seem to look similar? Reason being is I have an old Swiss greatcoat that was going on e-bay since it's too tight across the shoulders now I’m older and fatter. But then I ...

Re: Any Groups near Southampton?

D'Oh! Good point :wasntme: To be honest I’m open to anything really. I quite like the idea of a slightly more modern period like 17th 18th century. I see there is a Pirate group near me on IOW so theoretically they are the closest but there is the little matter of the extortionate ferry to get there...

Re: Any Groups near Southampton?

See i cant even get that right  I used to be with Hounds of Morigan Medieval group but since moving down to Southampton in 2002 haven’t done any re-enactment so I’m open to suggestion. But I do like the idea of a non armoured group since I found if you wear armour on the battlefield in the pa...

Any Groups near Southampton?

Besides the Celtic group Weorod in Portsmouth does anyone know of any other groups in or near Southampton? I have had a look but all I could find was Weorod and The Hampshire Regiment which turns out are based near London in Surrey  At the moment I’m just fishing for ideas since it will be ano...

Re: What polish to use on armour?

Well given them a clean with Autosole then rubbed down with 3-1 oil but still look a litle grubby but at least there clean. I also found out the history of them. They where made by Armour Class about 15 years ago so you could say they are maturing well. :D I'll be putting them in the for sale sectio...

I have some 3/4 plate leg amour that I’m thinking of selling since I haven’t used them in over 10 years but they had a hard life when I was fighting so are a but dirty with surface rust. I used to use Autosolve but wandered in the past years has anything else come alone that will ...

Monks Robe's

What material should Monks robes be made of? I’ve been away from re-enactment for over 10 years and looking to get back into it as a Non-Com Monk character due to a shoulder injury involving a motorbike and a free flying lesson and a new driver. I thought a Monk would be ideal but all the cheaper ro...
