I'm with Jim on this one. You shouldn't (in theory) be hitting that hard regardless. I'm sure we've all aimed for the armoured bit and missed, in that case your blow shouldn't cause injury, just because you expected armour. There is no reason why you shouldn't be able to fight unarmoured and armoure...

not a period of history I know much about, so can't comment on accuracy, it took a bit of getting into, but once you're there - you really are there!

Hi,

I use an elastic band, a proper hair band, either black or brown (depends on the colour of your hair! )

You can get transparent bands, and then tie something more appropraite over it, so that you can't see the elastic. It would never stay in place otherwise!
