Re: Newbie's guide to kit buying

Aendr, Pilgrim shoes will be at the first open day meeting, so you can try on and order, then she comes to the second one to deliver. Always easier to get them when you can try them on.

Re: hooks and eyes

Wasn't there someone who used to demonstrate making hooks and eyes. I bet that they will have done the research. It would be nice to think so. I make hooks and eyes too, based on the Janet Arnold ones, and have seen earlier eyelets in portraiture ( though I can't remember where just now). Lots of p...

Re: hooks and eyes

Janet Arnold shows examples on items from the 1560's, the ones on Eleanor of Toledo's gown apparently showing signs of corrosion ( despite the rest of the garment being in goodish nick) so maybe this is a clue to why not many are seen elsewhere?

Re: Fabric Choice - Help!

We love Interparcel, last time I booked in it only took two hours for them to come and collect the parcel. The Post office took three days once, to decide that the amount calculated by their office to take a parcel to Ireland, was so wrong that they not only wouldn't deliver it at first class, as it...

Re: Fabric Choice - Help!

Weeell, Jiffy bags cost money, and packaging small orders takes almost as long as packaging bigger ones. Ali appears to use Interparcel to save having to keep going to the post office. Which is why he can offer the overall price of £10 for all parcels up to 25 kg. 4 m of linen is not light, and at P...

Re: Two markets....

The footfall at TORM did not seem to have been unduly affected, once the customers who had got stuck in the access issues at the other place had escaped, they still made it along.
Our take was the best ever, so all is good. Brought home by the RAC lorry again, though, which is getting a bit old.

Alder and willow grow with their feet in the water, when working on nature reserves we were always told that this was why they were used for the soles of clogs.
Alder in big enough pieces can be hard to find commercially. Or expensive.

Re: Leeds armouries question

Nice place, happy lad looking at the exhibits. I would have been happier with a two day show, did not really need the third. We sold a lot more to reenactors than to public, and the toys I had taken to try to interest the MOPs were great for getting the Mops to play, the older ones loved them, and t...

It does, ahem, overflow a little enthusiastically if over applied to a cavity...
Gorilla glue, that is, but with suitable abrasives it can be dealt with.

Re: Leather and shoes

I am too mean to risk any of my leather goods by trying it to see if it does, Ko cao lin , saddle soap, Neatsfoot oil, and dubbin, a box with that lot in, and you're pretty much sorted.
All other eventualities in life are helped by WD40 and Duck tape.

Re: Leather and shoes

I was always told, at Pony club, to buy the Neatsfoot oil, not the Neatsfoot Compound, which comes in a similar tin, because the compound has something else in it which is harsher on the stitching. I can't vouch for whether this is true or not, because I am a very obedient kind of person, so never b...

We don't find as much time to do both, but we know more people now, and enjoy the Muddy circuit, whereas before we were just going to Kentwell. The kids and I, that is, Tim was a Viking and knew lots of people, and he says Yes it has, not completely but he is missing what he used to do. Both are fun...

You have a daughter, and therefore are already well aware you are to be under her thumb for the rest of your life, and appear to be accepting the position particularly enthusiastically. She looks like she has the performance art genes nicely established, and is having a ball- what a beautiful smile!...
