Aliens. Using lasers to precision cut the garnets. It's the only sensible explanation. Those chaps on some of the pressblachs on the Val7 or Guttenstein scabbard. The ones with the wolves heads and task and what not? Definately alien. Very 'Stargate'. Hence the Egyptian connection. holy funk yes! A...

The point of the thread was to discuss the origins of the stuff from Sutton Hoo. However, since the thread started no-one has mentioned that subject. Somehow the Viking sword pommel thread got equated with the sword pommel from Sutton Hoo Sounded more like a narration of the events that led up to t...

Post 8th nope, I was thinking of the romany ones that look like dolphins.

Why change? I spose it's all in line with the general post christian tarting down? But you still get decorated mouths and chapes don't you? So why hide all the sliders?

Why would a black hauberk be fancy? Surely having black armour just means you had to have it oil quenched to stop it rusting since you can't afford a servant to keep it shiney for you?

Don't buy cotton, you won't get within 100 metres of any decent re-enactment event wearing it...well you might, but you'll be promptly told to take it off.

If you can't wear or use wool or leather, then as matt said..you're pretty much screwed.

My girlfriend refers to him as the "hobo man" from when she saw him at Torm. I think he's cut his hair now though, with the great coat all he'd have needed was the bottle of whiskey and the unhinged temperment.

Look for the all knowing halo of pedentment that shines above him. 8)

Women will generally protect their homes, their children, and themselves if threatened, and will kill without concern if there is a reason, ie killing an animal to feed their children, a womans ability to kill or hurt is rooted in necessity. Hence why you get less female "yobs" but actively seeking ...

Still think it's just an easy easy way of making it stronger without having to weld a seperate central rib in. If it's the cheap and easy way of doing it explains why it's so rare.

Now, there is a problem that can be raised with this. Does the narrative lore reflect the truth? it can do. Obviously in some cases there is going to be exaggeration. It is a story after all, the audience needs to be captivated. Perhaps the idea of the spear protruding from the far side of the body...

Corrugated for strength I'd imagine, means you don't have to put a central rib in it to make the thing strong. But with regards to the barbed head, if it's an angon you're talking about, it's all been said.

Not much use doing all the fancy work when you aint got a shield in a line fight, some pesky b**ger with a hand full of javelins will finish you off. In a one on one surely you'd just go for the legs to put him on the ground as quick as possible.
