Re: Sewing projects

As usual for the forum, you're getting a lot of great advice. I really only want to add that you should be patient with yourself, and remember that if you look at a lot of museum pieces that many of them will have stitiching and finishes that would seem terrible to the modern eye. I'm not advocating...

Re: Trading at Kelmarsh and Tewkesbury 2012

Hi, Frances, It's English Heritage for Kelmarsh. Catherine Miller-Gough was the coordinator this year. It's good to get in touch with them now to get on the list for the applications for next year which come out sometime in January, I think. I don't have the contact info here at home but if someone ...

Re: How Rude!!!

As for the rude comments, consider them to be honest customer feedback, which most business would give there eye-teeth for. For instance: Idiot: This is a lovely necklace, I think the work is beautiful but I'm simply not prepared to pay that price. ....tells you that there is a potential market for...

Tewkesbury this year: Idiot: This is a lovely necklace, I think the work is beautiful but I'm simply not prepared to pay that price. Me: Ok. (thinking to myself 'Put it down, get OUT of my tent before I smack some manners into you') People treat traders (and, I'm sure, re-enactors and LH) as if they...

We've also had the 'I'm going to be really cheeky and ask if you'll take £20 for this £45 box' routine... you've got to admire their audacity! Teagirl was telling me about a woman who haggled mercilessly over the price of a set of beads, then reluctantly put down 50p. They were £48!!! :wasntme: I d...

Hi, Jane,

What provisions for camping in the castle are there for traders, as many of us use our trading tents for sleeping in, too.

There will be a few traders, I'm sure. We don't classify ourselves as 'Viking' traders as we do a wide range from Iron Age on up, but we might have a few  shiny things for Vikings. Just a few, mind you.

You need to contact the organisers of both the ILHF and TORM, request an application to trade and see what happens. That's what we did when we started out.

Re: Anyone going to the York st nicks fair?

We had a stand at both the Barley Hall fair and the new King's Manor fair. Mike was at the King's Manor venue for the weekend and wants to echo what the other traders have said. The organisers made the entire weekend extremely pleasant and went well past the usual efforts to make sure all the trader...
