It'd be super to hear that there's a big list of confirmed attendees, particularly English chaps and chapettes.

Agreed. I prefer a bow that I can draw well within my limits, so that I can more safely adjust for range without straining. A 30lbs draw is easily sufficient for most reenactment battles. Heh, £390? <Irrelevant anecdote>I have two bows that cost me about £3.90 each, including the strings, plus a cou...

Looking for someone to make a bespoke wooden box

(On behalf of a chum)

I'm looking for someone who can make a smallish decorative wooden box, velvet lined, to custom measurements (it's to hold a collapsible telescope). Can anyone recommend a craftsman for that?

Eh, well, there's an argument to be made that armour is PPE. Good on you for not throwing a dodgy tabard over the top of it, anyway.

BTW I was one of the 15thC re-enactors who was persuaded to come to the first bannockburn (not, but you know what I mean) we did make some effort, ditching sallets and replacing with kettles, wearing long shirts untucked to cover wrong hose styles, leaving hte armour off and fighting with spears. I won't duplicate the kit guide, but you can find a strikingly similar one for the highly recommended Lanark 2007 , courtesy (and copyright) of Tournée. what does Gaddgedlar mean? It's a 11th century Celtic/Norn portmanteau word meaning "See that Braveheart ? That'll be rubbish when it's made." Ahem. Real answer here . I think this is probably just a miscommunication, and perhaps a surfeit of "Alan(s) from Gaddgedlar". Sorry, I ...

Hmm, good point. As regards the actual organisation on the day, it would be very desirable to name the individual who will have primary responsibility for running the event from minute-to-minute. Their CV would ideally look something like this: * Enjoys the recognition, trust and respect of as many ...

OK, spilt milk, let's move on. Constructive suggestion: sell the event's attractions for reenactors. At this stage, can you commit to any of the following? Have the site open and staffed (with overnight toilet facilities and security) from Friday afternoon, with an option to stay until Monday mornin...

I'm going to take a breather from this thread for a while, as I'm starting to lose perspective on it. I'm just so frustrated at seeing groups and individuals that I really respect making the quite reasonable decision not to attend an event that I still very much want to deliver on its early promise....

I take it that means its not on? Tell us more. No, I haven't heard anything, I'm just expressing my feelings about not having heard anything, because it means that we'll have fewer of the really decent groups from the far reaches of the Empire (i.e. Englandland) attending. Some days, only an exhasp...
