Scabbards for polearm heads

Got asked this by a MOP at the weekend and wasn't entirely sure of the answer (so said I didn't know).

Anyone seen any evidence of these? Or does logic dictate that a scabbard is only necessary for those bladed items you wear, as opposed to carry...?

Cheers

Check out the medieval siege society (www.medieval-siege-society.co.uk) as we have loads of members in Essex, and some Essex events booked in for 2011 already.

There's a pub social meet up happening soon at Castle Hedingham that I'll send you details of too.

Cathy - I have a book on castles in east midlands which mentions it as being in moulton, which may be confusing things. Failing that I have some contacts in Northamptonshire archeology that I will ask - I'm already working with them about some suspected arrowhead finds from the 1460 battle. Was goin...

Re: Battlefields Trust Conference on Northampton 1460

I'll be there as the MSS are doing the arms & armour section, and the event on the battlefield itself the following day. Speakers look excellent, I've been involved a lot with the 1460 Northampton study group & the theories around the correct location recently and it's definitely exciting ti...

Hi Hraefn, Very handy list, can I ask where you got this? Secondly, there is an entry in there for Sir James Harrington which I'm very curious about. Is it the James Harrington of Wolfege/Wolfage who was knighted at the coronation of Henry VII? I'm involved with a local history society doing some re...

Fox – Just a quick note to say thanks for this thread. We’ll be showing the subsequent execution of the two Herbert brothers the 1469 Battle of Edgecote re-enactment & commemoration later this year, and whilst I can’t move Banbury Church a few miles to the battlefield the information above will ...

Martin- quick tip from my friend who is a (non-reenactment) trader.. Presumably you have to put money aside to pay your tax at the end of each year. Get an offset mortgage, and use this sum that’s sitting there accumulating over the year before vanishing off to HM Treasury in April to offset against...

Bloody heck I've known you a while Mr Shadrake. It's all your fault y'know, I keep telling the MSS that ;-) Prince of Thieves clashed with Hastings 1990 or am I not remembering that correctly? I know you and I didn't do the filming for a reason, think that's it. That Pyro shot on Gladiator was fun, ...
