Re: How Rude!!!

A little OT but yes I agree entirely, I had a knife among my iron age knives at ILHF last year that was marked up for £free and no one took it?

Re: Brick Hill Lane Gauntlets

Mark, I'd need to get back to you on the velvet as it was given to me and isn't something I know an awful lot about. I am slowly getting to grips with chiselling and decoration on the brass work, latten would be nice, but to be honest I haven't looked for it (or an equivalient) other than using bras...

Re: Brick Hill Lane Gauntlets

Mark Hi there, I'll take that as a request to have some hand raised, gilded, decorated and made exactly right gauntlets. oh yes ... with period materials, although I'll have to get out a new size of paper for the amount of 0's I'll need at the bottom of the quote. :D It would be lovely to make somet...

Re: How Rude!!!

Treaty, I think you may have hit upon why I will never be a millionaire in any industry. I did think about producing something like that but when I had drafted it I wasn't happy with the way it read; more like a rant and complaint than an eductional and useful document, so I abandoned the idea. I ha...

Re: How Rude!!!

Not sure if this is rude (upsetting) to anyone but armourers ... but at each reenactors market I have been to I have had people explain to me that they love the look of the work and its execution (head swells and I feel good about myself :$ ). Then they explain that they won't be buying anything fro...

Re: Brick Hill Lane Gauntlets

Alan

Sure no problem. The gloves are stitched in by the fingers, from the tip to the second knuckle. The cuff of the gauntlets are nice and tight enough to pinch hold the rest of the glove in place when they are on so nothing flaps about or is loose.

Hope this helps.

Re: Brick Hill Lane Gauntlets

True enough I suppose, my only defence would be that its a learning curve all the time and I hadn't considered taking things that far with the reproduction. I've used rabbit glue in the past once or twice and maybe this is something I could consider for future work again. Although not entirely relat...

Brick Hill Lane Gauntlets

Hello all I thought I would share my latest project, these are based on the Brick Hill lane Gauntlets in the Royal Armouries in Leeds. There are a standard fingered hourglass gauntlet with blue velvet covering. The fingers are blued with brass knuckles and gadlings with polished steel finger tips. I...

Re: Sourcing Cooking pans / Cauldrons

Probably a little late to the game on this one, but thanks for the reference above. Here's a couple of images of a recent cauldron in case it helps, this one was raised from a 14g (1.9mm) mild steel and is about 9 inches across (IIRC): http://www.greenleaf-workshop.co.uk/gallery/albums/userpics/1000...
