Re: Insurance

Its that time of year again to renew the van insurance. The best quote I have so far is the renewal from Direct Line - for £357.

Can anyone suggest a better alternative (SWB Ford Transit, 1.9l 03 plate)

thanks

Re: Gurkha casualities after the Falklands war

I would guess (and it is only a guess), that the regiment museum would have copies of the war diaries. However, whether they would give you access is another matter.

YOu may also want to check the newspapers of the time.

(Chain) mail(le) legs

OK, however you want to write it I am getting some chain mail legs shortly and would appreciate some helpful suggestions on padding and suspension of said legs: How thick should the padding be under the maille? Should I wear separate padded hose over the top of normal hose? What do you do behind the...

'58 pattern webbing set

Sold! Hi all, I have a set of '58 pattern webbing that I used when I was in the cadets at school and the OTC at university. I haven't used it since, so I may as well get rid of it. Would anyone here be interested. I will get it out later and post pics but I think it should include: Belt Yoke 2 ammo ...

Looks like I've opened a can of worms by mistake here! Don't worry Paul, it happens a lot on here. Once you get two re-enactors in one place then you will have at least 2 different opinions on how to do things. Add in the communication / interpretation / understanding problems due to electronic com...

You're going to have to be more specific since this forum covers 400 years but a jack is not being unarmoured. It's the folk that appear wearing nowt more than a shirt, and they do appear, on the field that I am on about. OK, that makes much more sense to me, and I would agree with you in general. ...

Genuine question Marcus. I've noticed that you use this acronym fairly regularly, but I have no idea what it means. Please could you enlighten me?

there are still no concrete rules on body protection for combatants at most battles. I'd have to disagree with you on that one. EMA guidelines currently read: No Helm - No Gauntlets - No Jack - No Fight In theory it should be as simple as that. However, we would like to clarify that a jack means pa...

Templar Soft Kit

I wonder if I could ask for some advice please? My next project is to create some kit to portray a Templar. To help with this I bought the Osprey book and have been looking at religious costume of the later 13th century. Plate B in the Osprey book shows a knight Templar wearing a long black tunic, a...

I know that Wikipedia is often not the most reliable of sources, but without specialist hard copy references it is often the easiest. Brother Ranulf, (or any body else) are you able to point us in the direction of a decent recording of some of the common prayers, such as the pater noster, ave maria ...

All the photos were taken by Denise (Matilda), so she owns the copyright and you should really ask her. But I am sure she would be happy with you having copies Gerald.

Or you can link to the photos on the Flickr site.
