I do make sure to air everything out on the line (benefits of living on a windy hillside with no neighbors) before putting it away, and it seems to be working. Did throw out all the old furs though. they...

with regards to the runic inscription identifying the object, the Vikings were quite big on self-evident inscriptions. There is one very famous comb in Denmark that has written on it "I am a comb"...either a viking joke or an example of using the power of words to enforce the object's perm...

for the kirtle, DO NOT make the waistline come to a point- that comes in later. For early 1500s, it should just be straight across...which is handy, since that's easier.

You might also want to check out the Tudor Tailor by Ninya Mikhaila. Its a fantastic book.

lemon juice or rosewater. Lemon juice is acidic, could help dry out spots, bleach out the skin too! rosewater, says Mistress Aimee of the Stillroom, is a natural antiseptic. Great stuff, smells fantastic.

do people really ask questions like that? It seemes impossible

YES! THEY DO! my favorite ones are those that ask "is that a real baby?" of the small, sticky, sleeping child on the bed...and then proceed to prod it till it shrieks.

People are just suprising that way...

ooooh...LOVE the brocade on the venetian gowns! VERY spiffy! Unfortunately, must get all NECESSARY costuming out of the way before I start drooling over fabric. Parents have stated that the Stash of fabric must remain UNDER three boxes worth at any given time. I suppose this is reasonable...but if I...

Viking Answer Lady page
it IS fabulous, isnt it? I'm actually taking a class right now called "in search of the vikings" and i'm doing an excursis on viking textiles as my final project. (I'm hoping to go to grad school for medieval archeology, focusing on textiles)

my biggest pet peeves of the season bid fair to be: lack of proper undergarments, lack of head covering, and REVERSIBLE BODICES. I know its a bit of costume snobbery on my part, but I really dont like them, especially made in upholstery or quilting novelty fabrics. :(
