3 Piece minstrel ban to play at my wedding

Dear All, I wondered in anyone would be able to point me in the direction of a 3 piece minstrel band to play at our wedding reception and lead the congregation some medieval dance. We don't have much of a budget but am not asking for anything for free. The reception will be held Near Herstmonceux in...

Women at events

Hi All,

My fiance and I are intending on joining the MSS but Karen wants to know more about the sort of things that the women folk get up to during events. We are interested in living history and the men at arms and well everything really.

So does anyone have any advice?

Thanks,

Billy & Karen

Chain mail Haubeck

Hi All,

I am intending to make a butted cahin mail shirt (I know its not strictly authentic), but I have a couple of questions.

Would a haubeck be 14th - 15th C?

What other designs would be appropriate?

Could anyone suggest a supplier for rings?

Re: Chain maille between 1350 and 1490

Thanks for the responses. Thomas, Thanks for that :) Alan, I'll look those books up, and keep checking the armour research society website, thanks. Colin, what your saying is that 6 in 1 is not an authentic mail pattern and 4 in 1 was, however the 4 in 1 coul be dressed up in effect to suit the weav...

Chain maille between 1350 and 1490

Hi all, Please excuse me if this has been covered elsewhere, but my searches lead me to nothing really, I am interested in finding out about chainmail between 1350 and 1490. What were the predominant weaves? I have seen that 4 in 1 was a common weave but have also heard of 6 in 1. Was this weave use...
