Re: Seeking advice on finding and joining a group

Where are you based? That may help with people contacting you if they have members in the area. That's a good point. I thought I'd mentioned that I'm in Gloucester, bt apparently I forgot that bit! I keep seeing things about the Companions of the Black Bear who are local to me, but every link I fol...

Re: Seeking advice on finding and joining a group

Regardless of what period I end up "doing" I will only bring the family along if they are involved. It won't necessarily stop me (and "the boy") from taking part. To be honest, "the boy" would probably enjoy WW2 just as much but I know he (and "the noisy pink one&q...

Re: Seeking advice on finding and joining a group

That's a relief. I'd hate to have to explain to him that he had to stay at home. He gives me that look with the big, soppy eyes and the underlying threat he'll crap in the kitchen while I'm out.

Re: Seeking advice on finding and joining a group

If you want to talk to someone from the Woodvilles while at Berkley I shall be there, if God allows it as a guest of Ravencrest/Lord Grey's retinue (aka the northern plastic monkey woodvilles). Brilliant. I'll look for the chap in the medieval gear... oh dear :) I'm sure I'll find you. Would the Wo...

Re: Seeking advice on finding and joining a group

I'm juggling previously made plans to try and get to Kelmarsh this weekend. So fingers crossed. I'll be on my own though as the kids have birthday parties and the like to go to.

Re: Seeking advice on finding and joining a group

Thanks for the tips. I'm hoping I can collar a few people at Berkeley. One of the groups I want to speak to isn't there though sadly. Was going to try and get to Kelmarsh this weekend but that's not looking likely now due to other commitments. I hear what you're saying about the WW2 groups. Only to ...

"Jubbly pish" - possibly the best phrase I've heard this year so far.

Seeking advice on finding and joining a group

Hi Re-enacting and Living History has been something I have been interested in for some time but until recently I have never seriously considered getting involved with. However after taking the family to Tewkesbury last weekend and seeing how much they enjoyed it I have got it into my head that I wa...

Re: taking credit cards by phone at shows?

I'm not sure. If someone hacked into your Pay Pal account and made payment straight from your bank, wouldn't you be protected by the direct debit guarantee. You would have to make a claim through your bank rather than Visa/Mastercard. Likewise for a credit card payment, via the consumer credit act....

Re: taking credit cards by phone at shows?

I see what your saying but strictly speaking just because you "can" doesn't mean you "should". I guess that my involvment in the industry makes me over-cautious. Personally I would NEVER want to log in to my Paypal account via someone else's phone. But that's just me :) Then agai...

Re: taking credit cards by phone at shows?

Hi I'm obviously new here and really only a casual observer but this is an area I do have a bit of experience in so I thought I'd chime in... hope you don't mind! I am not sure if this is any help at all, but friends of mine who trade use their iphone to connect to paypal, allowing a customer to log...

Re: More Tewkesbury 2010

Hi, I'm a total non-reenactor but have been to a few events and love it! I've been reading the forums to see how I go about joining a group and getting involved and I saw this thread. I was at Tewkesbury on Saturday and Sunday and took a few pics. You can find them on Flickr at http://www.flickr.com...
