You can also try

http://www.medievaldesign.com

They have a range of Roman clothing available.

They are based in Italy but there website is also in English, I have found them very helpful and they will make custom clothing.

Re: Roman fleet and marines...

Hello Well you may have made the publishers a bit richer but I hope you find the books useful. There is not a great deal known about naval uniform and the term uniform is used loosely. So if you do have the Osprey Roman Naval forces book that basically covers what there is, although D'Amato's interp...

Re: Illustrators wanted for Anglo Saxon stuff

Hello

If you are still interested in finding an illustrator you could have a look at my website

gsillustrator.co.uk.

I have illustrated some Saxon subjects, notably for Sutton Hoo and the book "Cloth and Clothing in Early Anglo-Saxon England', by Penelope Rogers.

Re: WWII British uniform and webbing 1940

Hi

Thanks for this extra info

so what he was wearing depends on which battalion of the DLI.

The painting is set during the battle of Arras May 1940. Therefore I believe the 6th and 8th Battalions were present.

WWII British uniform and webbing 1940

Hi I am working on a painting which will show a DLI British Infantryman with the BEF in 1940. Based on an eye witness account he is supposed to be wearing an old fashioned service dress uniform and looks very much like a ghost of a WWI Tommy. Does anyone have a photograph of any British soldiers fro...

Re: Dead?

Hi Not dead but retired. I was a first century Auxiliary with The Ermine Street Guard for almost twenty years but left as a full member in 2004 to concentrate on my illustration career. Nevertheless I still visit Roman re-enactment displays wherever possible. Hopefully some of you are familiar with ...

Re: Late Roman dished shield

Thanks Matt

I was just going to direct him to a new thread on RAT on how to make dished shields!

Just realised he has not added his real name here and that it was the same person who had started the post on RAT! :$

Re: Late Roman dished shield

Hi There are some plank shields from Dura Europos in Syria which are dished. They are published in a number of publications but the most detail is the the report on the military finds from the site by Simon James. There are also some late Roman shields from Egypt which are round rather than oval and...

Re: Roman hats/arming caps

Hi

Anyone still interested in this thread might like to read my latest book, 'Roman Military Dress', published by the History Press. I tried to find as much evidence as I could on this topic and included some rather spectacular hats found in Egypt.

Hi

You could also try the following magazines
