Re: 15th Century Artillery Sources
Thanks Dave, I could go for a 2" pole gun I suppose. Does the book you posted have illustrations? I could do with something to get ideas from. I like the idea of a breech loader but there do not seem to be that many about so not sure if it is an issue with manufacturing difficulties or something els...

Re: 15th Century Artillery Sources
Legislation wise, as long as it can be put on a FAC I should be ok, and if the barrel fits in a van I should be fine as well. I quite like the breach loading swivel gun which is claimed to be 15th century (can't remember which museum has it) but I think that to use it properly I would need some kind...

15th Century Artillery Sources
I am thinking about having an artillery piece made for the Wars Of The Roses time period but I am not sure what I want yet. Just wondering if there are any decent book or other sources out there which have illustrations or photos of what was used in the period so that I can start to narrow my choice...

Re: Great War SMLE advice
I have now managed to find a 1915 british SMLE which appears to be in pretty good condition and has apparently only just been released from the military. The woodwork has a few little dings but at 98 years old it is what I would expect. I am now on the look out for stripper clips, but the only ones ...

Re: New to WW1 Re-enactment
I don't want to be an officer, no attraction for me but to each their own. But I do love my infantry officers sword.
What I really want to be is a Tankie which would keep my Lincolnshire link but I have never seen an appropriate vehicle come up for sale.

Re: New to WW1 Re-enactment
I am in a similar situation myself, I am very nearly there with kit for the Lincolnshire Regiment, however I have gone OR so would not be expecting to portray an officer. Unfortunately the only multi regiment group I am aware of seems to have gone belly up which is a great shame. At the moment I int...

Re: Great War SMLE advice
I have spoke to the seller of the first SMLE. It has the earlier bolt, the magazine cut off and a windage sight if that is the correct spelling. The seller thinks that it was made around 1914, 1915 and it is known to have been exported to South Africa for the forces there, having been imported back ...

Re: Great War SMLE advice
Thanks for your help. I have sent the gun star seller a message so we will see what happens. What little bit of knowledge that I have is black powder smooth bore based, so nothing as modern as a rifle. Gary at Derbyshire Historic Arms has offered to seek out some blanks for me, and long term I inten...

Great War SMLE advice

Re: I want to buy an armet ... I think
I don't think that you see many because of the price, when I was looking at getting an armet to go with my kit the prices that were quoted were around three times the amount that a sallet and bevor cost me.

Luckily my local force does not mind, the nice licencing gent has reccomended a small local club which I was not aware of should I wish to start live firing.

Re: 15th century powder flasks
The pre measured charges for handgonnes are pretty much the norm for wotr fed and l&m, is this not a good idea? (not a cartridge sorry for any misunderstanding as the bamboo tupe is simply to carry a pre measured charge, it is then of course poured down the muzzle) It is also the same as any gunner ...

Re: 15th century powder flasks
That it may be cow dung was my initial thought as well. I carry a minimal amount of powder in the horn and only use it for priming, the main charges are pre measured in bamboo tubes stoppered with tissue papered wadding. If my horn went up with the amount of powder I think it would burn rather than ...

I use a stoppered horn at the moment, but have been told that it is not correct for period but the person who told me this could not say what was correct for period.

15th century powder flasks
I am looking for a 15th century powder flask and during my search on the web have managed to find nothing at all.
I can find tudor and beyond but nothing pre tudor.
Does anyone know what they would have used in the 15th century?

I am still collecting bits together at the moment, I have my shoulder titles now, full webbing including bayonet and trenching tool thingy. I still need putees and a shirt. Which Maille Links?
I am looking to expand my re-enactment skills beyond show and tell weapons and hand guns. I think that I would like to do some mail or maille making to pass the time and give me something else to talk about. What I am wondering is for the 15th century (wars of the roses) what links would be best, we...

Re: Help sought on 'authentic' armour
I think that the battle of nations teams tend to use 14th century armour. It might be worth looking for the same armourers they use as some of the eastern european armourers have been making stuff for that kind of combat for years, the last thing you want is to spend a fortune on something that will...

Re: WW1 Lincolnshire Regiment
Ok Thanks to the help of people on this and the great war forum my kit is slowly starting to come together. My next question is when applying for a firearms licence what do you put down for where you intend to use it? I think that "anywhere in the UK and possibly abroad" will not help my application...
