Lincoln - opening times

I've just been informed by Lincoln Council that the main market is opening at midday on the Thursday this year. I don't have any confirmation whether the Bishops Palace is planning to do the same, but I thought it might be worth giving a heads up to anyone trading - if I remember correctly they open...

Van for Sale (MOT fail)

Hi all, I'm getting rid of my van - Citroen Relay LWB 1800D (2000 reg). It has failed MOT - largely because the sills need welding, tho there are a couple of other minor repairs. As I'm not doing any large outdoor shows this season (because of having the baby), it isn't worth me paying to get it rep...

Re: new market for next Xmas

I've done burgers on some indoor LRP events - my butcher makes a brilliant 6oz cracked black pepper burger for us, which we serve with salad, pickles & Emmental cheese and of course quality relishes (although we do have to provide a plain tomato ketchup). They do go down well, but I've never sol...

Re: new market for next Xmas

Wouldn't do burgers, Martin. Sausages (probably more along the line of a bratwurst variety), possibly, as they are commercially viable. I believe there is a hog roast chap there already. Would probably offer beef goulash also as a non bread based option & which always proves popular & a vege...

Re: new market for next Xmas

This would be of interest to us, in the light of your comments re food traders. I've previously elected not to bother with it knowing there are at least 2-3 hot food stalls already in the castle & therefore too much competition to be financially viable. I have the details, so will submit an appl...

Re: Good adverts for LBP

I hadn't planned on it hun, but I'm sure we can do something easy like bacon & egg rolls. Wouldn't want to be doing a full English at this market in all honesty. Chaz has the tea & coffee concession, so we wouldn't be doing that, but I'm sure he'd happily provide the brews in exchange for a ...

Is there any way..

To change my posting name?

Langley's missus is also known as Lady L (which I didn't know when I registered on here a couple of years ago).

Would like to alter my posting name if at all possible to avoid any confusions.

Cheers,
Rachael

Re: How are you finding trade ?

Overall trade this year is slightly up on last year, despite setbacks, but that's due to us breaking into the bigger shows (Tewks, Mortimer's Cross, etc). However, we've found it necessary to increase our prices & think seriously about which shows we will attend or not, certainly for next year. ...

Re: Winter weather

to be fair Lady L the decision to cancel the market was nothing to do with the council I do apologise. Forgot it was H & S peeps who had the end say. Thanks for the link to snow chains on ebay - I hadn't thought of getting them from there, but they are far cheaper than I have found elsewhere. D...

Re: Winter weather

just out of interest, how on earth can they say its going to snow on x,y,z date with any accurate detail at all ?? Apparently it's something to do with SSR's (whatever they may be) in May, though berry flourishing & early blooming winter flowers are also an indicator. I've no idea how they pred...

Re: Winter weather

I have obtained a quote for myself to cover me for up to £10,000 (loss of stock, staff wages, travel expenses etc) through cancellation of the event due to adverse weather. £152.00.

It's less if I cover for £5,000.

Winter weather

Upon returning the piece of catering equipment I'd hired for the last 2 weekends, my supplier informed me that he had heard on the news that we are set to have a bad winter, yet again. Apparently it is going to start in late October with snow forcast. I've checked various sites online to try to gain...

Contracts

How many of you work with a bona fide contract, terms & conditions etc? Ones that you provide & not an event organiser that is.

I'm looking for a bit of discussion & advice at the end of it all.

Just to clear up any confusion, The Giddy Kipper (Event Catering Services) is still trading. Whilst the cancellation of Lincoln Xmas market has hit us hard, I (Cap'n Macy Laine) am still heralding The Giddy Kipper as the pirate galley ship of Event Catering Services. There has been a shift in manage...

Giddy Kipper has a free standing marquee that we can work out of - have worked on tarmac on several shows.

Selling hot food, drinks & if required we are licensed so can sell mulled wine, mead etc.

Trader food at York King's Manor & Lincoln

Hi guys, Just a quick note to try to establish whether you will want some form of breakfast on each of these shows before the main market opening time? It would be a basic offering - Viking Porridge / breakfast rolls (bacon, egg, sausage). We'd have to stop service by 9.30 am so we are all ready for...
