Re: Tudor bonnets
There was a lengthy exchange of ideas on a sealed knot forum. People came up with a few images but mainly continental or earlier. The consencus of opinion was that there may have been a few around from people who have travelled but not in the numbes I was seeing at the event. Thank you for the imput...

Tudor Bisuits
Can any one reccomend an easy Tudor bisuit recipe that I can bake and take to Flodden? I had thought about Shrewsbury cakes using the 17th century recipe- it has mace in it rather than rose water. Would these be authentic enough?

Re: Tudor bonnets
Yes the bonnets I mean are the round woolen ones with a small brim. The items a few of the women were wearing were a square piece of linen with out an upright collar, that was worn over the shoulders and pinned in the corners as a modesty covering. I have only seen these in tudor portraits and I'm c...

Tudor bonnets
I went to sealed knot do this weekend and was suprised to see a lot of the women wearing tudor bonnets. Can any one please tell me were they about in the civil war period or had they stopped being worn earlier, is this just a knotism? Also partlets were worn by some women. I thought that this was a ...

Re: What does the public see?
I have one pair that does for all the periods from medieval to 18th century, mainly as I'm too vain to wear the leather framed ones. My glasses are metal framed but do not have the nose pinchers. I'm sure the frames didn't cost much (my partner got them for me from the states I think) and it cost ab...

Re: Dog types in Medieval/Tudor/Stuart times
I'd love more than one greyhound but I'd have to move and get another car!! The only problem we have found with Mysty is she is fine whilst allowed to sleep on the bed in our tent but when it comes to taking her for a wee walk we struggle to get her out of the tent. We are re socialising her getting...

Re: Dog types in Medieval/Tudor/Stuart times
I work full time and have a greyhound, she is happy sleeping all day. Most re-homing kennels cat test the dogs before they are ready to be re-homed. If you find a good kennel ask them about cats and they will try and match you with a dog that fits with your home life.

Re: Dutch 17th century clothing book / catalogue
I think you mean the book of swedish costume "Modelejon Manlight Mode 1500-1700" by Lena Rangstrom, or Lions of Fashion Male fashion of the 16th, 17th , 18th centuries. Page 78, A red broad cloth doublet included in the clothes of Gustavus Adolphus in 1661. The whole book contains clothes from the s...
Re: Buttons
Grymm,
He asked me to make a shirt so I make a shirt. I'm not sure what he wants to use it for, posh civvi and officer I guess.
Can you buy the linked buttons at traders or will I have to get some on line?

Buttons
I am making an 18th century officers or posh ruffle shirt and was pondering the question of what the best buttons woud be to use- pewter, brass, horn, would they have had sleeve buttons (the ones joined a small s clasp thingy). Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Reliable sources that don't break the bank
For a reasonable stop gap, Anne Laverick makes off the peg corsets that, if I recall are not bank breakers. I don't think she has a web site but I'm sure you could contact her from the TORM web site. I would definatley reccomend cloak and dagger'd for bespoke though. What group are you with? Is ther...

Re: Breastplates and archers.
I have a full cuirass from Aplaisance and don't have any trouble with the neckline when I bend down. The fauld is onleathers though, so has quite a bit of movement. IIRC it may have pressed slightly into my neck when I bend down without any neck protection, but not so much as to give me problems. I...

Jackie, I usually wear sports socks and thickish stockings. I tend to stay in kit after closing time and as I was always told that as you apparently lose heat through your head I have a varity or hats from modern to multi period to wear. When I come to you at ILHF about the victorian corset (that To...

I came from about 20 years (on and off) doing 17th century so i also felt I had a lot to learn. There are some good general books out there to get you started. I only had a basic sence of the military side so bought a book on Bonnie Prince Charlie and Culloden. The social history was a bit trickier ...
