Re: Silk Velvet

I have used quartermasterie silk velvet - it is silk nap with cotton backing. looks great, much easier to work with that the rayon mixes, ans since the nap is all silk - that's what is visible - you do not see the cotton backing:-) good weight too. price - £40 per metre, and worth it....

Prior Attire post fire shoot:-)

As some of you may already know, we ( Prior Attire) suffered a fire on the 28th December - damaging almost all of our stock, finished items and fabric stock alike. The insurance will probably cover some of it - but not all, alas, so it looks like our market stock will be heavily depleted in the first...

My victorian wedding gown!

a 1883 gown in silk duchesse - a result of about a month of stitching. the bridesmaids and the mother of honour all in attire ranging from 1878 - 1883, the groom somehow earlier though - it just had to be a Mr. Darcy! brilliant wedding venue too, st. Audries in Somerset.

Many thanks for that! - I am not so much interested myself, not my period really, plus will be enjoying a hunting break in Devon at the time. My father would most likely be running a horsey event near Augustow at that time too ( http://www.lesnygalop.pl/), will have to contact him, you never know, h...

Hello everybody. My college has just decided that they want to run some short part time costume courses next year, both in Bedford and in Luton. the courses' lenght and contents are being discussed at the moment, but generally it will probably be: 1. Make your own corset - 10 - week course, 2 or 3 h...

Re: a 1650 gown

the basque is the skirts part of the bodice. heard the term in France a some point while discussing 17th cent garb there and still find myself using it - probably incorrectly :silent: lace - nope, not this one - had a very limited time scale for this project, so had to made do with a different one. ...

Re: a 1650 gown

thanks! on my sourses it says 1650. Later styles tend to have shorter sleeves and no 'basque': the bath gown and the one from janet Arnold show tabs, but then skirt is worn on top of them. the one i made was cuf out of 2 bits on each side - which turned out to be too small. so will be redoing that -...
