Re: You're History - Broadlands Park 2012

I was there as a trader, and yes, Saturday was great (though very little money about), but Sunday couldn't have been more different - the awful weather led to the show being cancelled at midday, such a shame, but with the ground being so wet and muddy it was the sensible thing to do. I'm fortunate e...

Re: rain and events last weekend 4 and 5th aug

Loxwood Joust, E. Sussex. Showers on Saturday led to much churning up of mud across parts of the site. Entrance roads not great but just about passable I think. Don't know what hte public car park area was like, didn't see it. Sunday morning 10am, show called off after much heavy rain from about 6am...

Re: Looking for a show for August Bank Holiday weekend.

I'd forgotten Detling - might be worth a try. Does anyone have contact details? I trade as Beth's Beaderie - beadwork, wirework and chain maille jewellery and gifts, some handspun yarns and handwoven braids, and hand-dipped candles. Also happy to demonstrate the candle dipping, or if enough space le...

Looking for a show for August Bank Holiday weekend.

I've just had news that the event I was going to be doing over the August Bank Holiday has been moved to a date a couple of weeks later, just when I'm away on holiday, so I'm not able to get there. I'm now looking for somewhere else to go instead. Needs, ideally, to be south of Birmingham and within...

Re: What do you think ?

Have to admit that it's the only LARP event that I've ever tried doing. Wouldn't mind finding a few and giving them a go, so if anyone can point me in the direction of some I'd appreciate it. Southern England preferably, but will go as far as the Midlands/Wales/E. Anglia.

Re: What do you think ?

These were they - http://www.forestargent.co.uk/ I did have some contact with the organiser about three months after the non-event - was asked for my bank details so he could make some interim payments to cover my costs, wasn't going to go giving out my bank details to a near total stranger.....said...

Re: What do you think ?

We headed off to a LARP event, got there to find one other trader there and nobody else around at all - didn't find out till after we got back that the event had been cancelled and we hadn't been told. We'd had a 320 mile round drive there and back, and all for nothing. Took me about three months to...

Re: Snailwell Medieval Fayre

Snailwell will do me just fine - and has the advantage for me of having friends and relatives just a few minutes drive away that I can stay with for a night or two either side of the show. I enjoyes the show last year, and again this year in spite of the rain, so barring any untoward happenings next...

bells

Yep - you sure can. Not only at the Taylor foundry in Loughborough, but at the one in Whitechapel too. I've visited both, and it's a fascinating process. It's unlikely that many churches had more than one bell until some time in the 1500s when the likes of Fabian Stedman began devising what are know...

the sound of bells

Not been on here for a while, so only just spotted this one. As a bellringer for 35 years I've rung many church bells, and they don't all sound perfectly in tune, I've come across some that are quite awful. Tuning bells, until recently, was always a matter of trial and error - - abefore about the 15...
