Re: Pickelhaube helmet linings
a quick google of picklehaube lining will give you a selection of linings on different models, the liners depended on model but revolve around variations on a theme- picklehauben.net may be a useful resource if you know the age and type, presumably something like a ww1 1916 infantry version? as ther...

Re: Equipment Update.
You did ask about why you weren't getting responses to posts and discussions etc here on forum, the answer has been given above, apart from a generic nice vid post, there isn't much to say
so the above is relevant to your question.

Re: Equipment Update.
Had a look at video on YouTube, a quick film review- presentation style overall is good, coverage of subject matter good, though there is some room for further technical discussion it would be on minor points that would detract from the overall subject, demonstrations are aimed at those with some fa...

Re: Living History photography
A local shop sells old film sizes, more than once I have walked around events with a box brownie, no one thinks it has film in so pull some ridiculous poses, some of which cause embarrassment when the film is developed, a fiver for a camera, about 8 for film, and only a few shots so make them count,...

Re: Equipment Update.
Couldn't load plug in message again, nice collection of kit, the hatchet is a good size, with brass/bronze barrel on old guns, be aware of crystalization of the metal, not visible to the eye, but in old metal it occurs and can lead to barrel failure, so don't hold them the first couple of times they...

Re: NO "charcloth" Fire Lighting.
Couldn't load video, char cloth has its uses but is a pain to use at times, a length of slow match is quite a good thing to carry along with a bit of wax, natural fluffy seed pods, fungi from trees, dry rotten wood pulp and if its wet a split and shaved stick usually work in UK settings, fire kit va...

Barrel casting to a 19th century pattern, who made the safest barrels, well that depends on size and period if you are looking for barrels cast around a cooled tube, then that tech is no longer available, also do not repeat do not trust Chinese cast or forged iron if you are not 199 percent in the f...

So, do you think you will be providing any pennies to cover the expense of going there feeding people and the costs of just turning up etc, As for 19th century cavalry, you should try rearranging direction of approach and ask about the lancers, good fun tent pegging as long as you remember wh...

Re: academic hood, cambridge pattern
the masters hoods of 15th century and modern (19th century) would be of great interest, the difference of colours not being a problem just the pattern, (academic wear being variable under current rules as they specify pattern and colour but not age or date, it leads to most amusing discussions with ...
