New book on German Longsword training

This may seem strange for a group the concentrates on Fiore, but we are proud to be able to supply a major new work - The Art and Science of Johannes Liechtenauer's Medieval German Longsword. This book has just been published and is available from all major outlets or directly from our shop ... clic...

Re: Spear / Partizan boffers.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for that - really useful information. I didn't realise Rob had been in touch as well - so I'll have a chat with him about which way we should go. We're looking for cheap/effective spear wasters for the class at SWASH.

I'll be back :)

Re: Spear / Partizan boffers.

Dave,

It's been a while since you first posted this - how have you found these as a waster design after prolonged use?

We're looking for spear wasters for SWASH 2012 and these could be ideal.

Cheers,

Mark

TK - I'm not too sure if I can make Fightcamp even though I want to (it's a Mrs L thing) but some of our group are planning to go, so I can sort something out.

Re: WMA: A new Fiore training book (c1400)

Hi Dave, Longsword isn't really my thing but if I can interest some of our lot in doing some stuff from the book it might be. You can use the Primoris sword section for any one-handed medieval sword. Fiore's one-handed section has a couple of nice techniques that really requires a H&H/Longsword ...

Re: WMA: A new Fiore training book (c1400)

Hi Dave, (snip) Just wondered what the target audience was actually intended to be? We're certainly not looking at this from an Exiles' growth point of view. We do have study groups, but they're concentrated around core-members/instructors. The main motivation was two things. We were getting a lot o...

Re: WMA: A new Fiore training book (c1400)

These were my trusty old "Sally Green" hose that I've had for ten years and have seen a lot of wear and (now) tear. The other pair had gone at the knee, but I think my "bulk" had expanded too much for this pair :? Alan - not sure I agree with you on the split hose, but I can defi...

Thanks Dave - drop me a line with any questions/comments (or post here). Hi Dave, I think some of us will be going to fight-camp, but I'm not sure who (and I don't think Rob is going). Hi Talia, You say that, but when we were in the States last summer Rob picked up his new WMA sparing mask, similar to this: http://thatguysproducts.com/masks/revival_proto2-sm.jpg and they...

Fiore 600th Anniversary

2010 sees the 600th anniversary of the Fiore dei Liberi PD manuscript and there are various events planned to celerate this. SWASH 2010 is probably one of the first and will have a Fiore theme running through the event with instructors from both the UK and USA. This promised to be something really s...

Hi there, just been told about this forum so I thought I'd have a little look. I was just wondering if anyone knew of any re-enactment groups in the Essex area? I'm currently in the Sealed Knot but I'd like to do some medieval re-enactment too. Many thanks Paul Hi Paul, Not re-enactment (although w...

I've had a couple of queries about whether the workshop would be okay for newbies/beginners.- that's fine, we always assume that there will be new starters (with daga, in this case) and work from there.

Fiore Stick Up - HEMA Workshop

Dear All Our next scheduled Fiore workshop is on the 10 Feb – 10am to 5:30pm – and is based on Bastoncello (stick combat). Bastoncello shows the fundamental relationship between techniques in unarmed and dagger and, hence, sword. Disarm someone with a dagger using a scarf! All the techniques are tak...

Agreed Phil, although Guy's book is still the best Fiore book around at the moment and, to be honest, the only one I could recommend.

Colin's book does look very nice - but Guy's is easy to carry (e.g. with kit), so I prefer that layout as well.

Hi,

I've got to agree with Adam on the Fiore front - out of the 3 books that are currently "out there" only Guy Windsor's is really (in my humble opinion) worth getting.

Excellent martial book, good content and well taught.

We're looking at this part of his system in depth with extensions into dagger and sword. If you are in...
