Did some posts disappear? I'm sure Rent a Peasant replied and I also chucked Andy Smerdon into the mix.

Re: The Loxwood Joust
I've been out of the medieval scene for a few years and was wondering if I could go along to play. I recall some talk of 'independents' possibly being allowed. Not sure if my old Fed group supports this event.

I see it is on again this year and I might even be able to go one weekend. What reenactment groups are playing this time? Is there an archery comp?

Re: Napoleonic Patterns
I can do reasonable leatherwork and have knocked out a few Napoleonic hats but the very thought of cutting into a nice piece of broadcloth strikes me with terror. Respect to the good tailors out there.medievalpirate wrote:......Cheers, thought I'd ask anyway, not that I can do any of this 'sewing lark'......

Re: Napoleonic Patterns
My Mrs ended up taking a pattern from my white overalls and I have no idea what pattern they were from. End result was, I think, pretty good. As for how difficult? I have zero tailoring skills so have no idea. I think she hand sewed most, or all, of it.

I was in a cobblers yesterday and he had bench mounted shoe stretcher which looked like it could do the job. Or you could try what my granddad said they did to break in boots when he was in the army in WWI - pee in them and wear until dry.

Re: New tricorn hat - stretch??
Hi all I've had a new hat delivered today from a supplier in the US. Although really well made, its slightly tight. I'd originally ordered it to be a couple of inches bigger to cater for a wig. Does anyone know of a way I might be able to stretch it a little bigger without ruining it? Thanks Steam ...

My understanding is that they were usually turned - made inside out and turned so the seam is inside - like period shoes. No. 1 looks machine sewed, 2. looks OK and 3. looks larpy!

I agree such things should be followed up and in my case it was done so professionally and with courtesy. No case to answer. I think 'anonymous' says it all about the 'concerned' author of the malicious letter. Spineless sh**.

Word to the wise - watch your backs! Some low-life sh** has sent an anonymous letter to my local Firearms Licensing dept. making completely unfounded and unsubstantiated accusations against myself and two others over illegal acquisition and use of black powder. Which led to an interesting interview ...
