Re: Two markets....

We always find Sundays difficult to judge, as it seemed steady but not crowded, but it was a good day for sales. I genuinely think that the days of markets as big social events is past, mostly because of things like the cost of fuel and the economy. People feel the pinch in a lot of ways, and they s...

That might have been related to it being Remembrance Sunday, lots of people came in later than usual.

Re: Two markets....

We found that attendance wasn't directly related to sales. Although it was a bit more quiet on the Friday, we had several museums and historic venues make enquiries about supplying them with some of Mike's work. Sales on the Friday were slightly up from the previous show, and sales overall were up a...

Thanks for that! I'll definitely chase that up and report back. Of course, I'll just have to give it back to them for Hastings but it would be nice to have the refund.

Cheers.

Ah, if only I could sit in the parlour, making beads with my little oil lamp!

It sounds like a fantastic event, best of luck with it!

Re: Multi Period Market

I hope you don't mind a few comments. November is usually pretty heavily subscribed with regular shows for a lot of traders. A one-day show makes it less attractive for a lot of people as it's a huge amount of work to set up and break down, which would make one day seem more work than necessary. The...

It's better if you can simply get them to stand around the stall long enough for a small debauch, thereby not having to worry about leaving the man behind the stand to worry.

A woooo or an ahhhh is as good as a fiver, because it helps us a lot when people just stop to talk about what we do and maybe go away understanding it a bit more. Appreciation goes a long way.

Re: How are you finding trade ?

Our sales at TORM were only slightly below the best show we'd had there, but well above the average shows, even with a very quiet Friday. We were amazed at the number of people on the Saturday, but the Sunday was much busier than usual, people there till the very end rather than it going quiet for t...

Re: How are you finding trade ?

Who's saying we are doomed? I'm saying my takings were going up at Warwickshire and have come down at Bruntingthorpe. Both shows, not just this one. Essentialy what I said. We are not telling anyone else not to trade at any show, we're dropping several this coming year because they are not really o...

Perhaps running and advertising a shuttle bus between the main gate and the Fair for public transport visitors would help as would better sign posting from every main route in. Is it too far in the wilderness I wonder ? The closest public transport to Bruntingthorpe is a 16-minute walk from the gro...

Re: How are you finding trade ?

We sell mainly to reenactors as all our stock is historic except for a small selection of jewellery but that's still made with the same beads. The majority of our sales at any show are the beads, with a sprinkling of other items people buy as gifts such as the necklaces/earrings. We'd be fools to pi...

Re: How are you finding trade ?

To be honest, every show this year bar one has been at least as good as the previous ones, or if not better certainly not any worse, except for the two ILHF shows. Mike and I both believe that the new venue has contributed significantly to that. The increase in pitch fees is not making it any easier...

They were mounted on display card, too! We also occasionally put a display card out as a test to see if people read the damn things. It says something about Mike being the beadmaker, and says if they read the card they can ask for a free bead. In two years of having the card on the stand, we've only...

Graham, It's a fine balancing act to write something short, informative and useful that doesn't sound like a critique or an ego-boost. We've written a number of things over the years, given as handouts or put online, and every time there's been someone who imagines that it's directed at them, even w...
