Re: Card payments

Just caught this question Graham as I don't come here often.... I have a Worldpay Zinc card reader which links to my phone (or tablet) via bluetooth. Providing you have a decent phone signal or wifi it works very well. The account also gives you you a virtual terminal for phone orders and the option...

Re: accepting card payments at markets

I looked at smartphone card readers when I had a Blackberry & found that they all worked just on iphone or Android. I was due an upgrade & so swapped to an Android phone which made the old Blackberry look anything but ‘smart’, but that’s another story... The Mpowa card reader does advertise ...

Re: Mick Mann?

Hi Grif Mick pretty much retired a year or so ago. He has also moved house (I don’t have his new address) and his e-mail hasn’t been working for years! He has been training up an apprentice over the last few years & I will send you her contact details – she should be able to put you in touch wit...

Re: Cheques

Like you Pete I have had very few bounced cheques (one that I can remember) in 15 years of trading & I often don’t even bother with a guarantee card from re enactors as, in general, they are an honest & reliable bunch. The problem of course will be that in the real world virtually every shop...

Re: Cheques

From 30th June 2011 the cheque guarantee card scheme is ending, meaning that no cheque will be able to be guaranteed. Cheques themselves are not ending, but of course they will become virtually obsolete for ‘face to face’ transactions where the seller cannot clear a cheque before releasing the goods...

I use HSBC secure e-payments as my website payment gateway. Unfortunately I can’t say that I would recommend them, as in my experience their system is very difficult to reliably integrate with shopping cart software (even though my shopping cart had HSBC built into it). Bear in mind that the card co...

The regulations do in fact allow for you to design your own signs as they actually say “…you are welcome to design and print your own no-smoking signs as long as they meet the minimum requirements”. All the HM Gov. guidelines say is that the signs must be – “a minimum of A5 in area: Display the inte...

I don’t think that you would get away with that one Sally. As most traders’ tents would be classed as either public places or workplaces, then the law says that the person who manages or controls premises that the law applies to is responsible for applying the law and displaying the signs. In any ca...

Smokefree law and trading tents

I posted the following as a reply in F&G but thought that it may be of interest to other traders who may be unsure of whether or not they fall into the new smokefree laws in England. According to the guidelines published by HM Gov. & sent to all businesses, tents and marquees are specificall...
