Painted Spear Shaft
Hi,
Is there any evidence in manuscripts that spear shaft may have been painted to the heraldic colour of the lord? I'm interested primarily in 13th century but any medieval sub-period is also interesting.
It's frequent in reenactor circles but is it a reenactorism?
Thanks,
David.

Categorising activities
Hello, I'm compiling a small database of groups connected with keeping history alive for my own use. It must be across all periods (but my expertise is in medieval so my ideas of activities in other periods is sketchy) I tried to classify all the activities into the following categories: - Living hi...

All Best Stuff Mail Hauberk + Coif - Any good?
Hi,
Has anybody ordered a maille hauberk from All Best Stuff that had an integrated coif and were you happy with the coif, i.e. did not need to many alterations to make it wearable?
Thanks,
David.

Re: Looking for reenactment group in the north east
On my FB group called Medieval Combat Enthusiasts North East England (feel free to join), there is a list of medieval groups in the North-East. Some of them have shows this coming week-end for St George's day. It's a good opportunity to meet them and see what they do.

In my haste I forgot a couple of things: I run a FB group where you'll find links to local re-enactment and HEMA groups: https://www.facebook.com/groups/MedievalCombatEnthusiastsNE/ Feel free to request to join. I joined Dawn of Chivalry a few years ago and I was lucky I found exactly what I was aft...

Re: Looking for reenactment group in the north east
Ryan, Check us out at Dawn of Chivalry (https://www.dawnofchivalry.co.uk/). We are a traveling knights reenactment group, depicting the 13th century. We do shows for the likes of English Heritage. We are heavily focused on combat so would match exactly what you are after. We train in Hartlepool but ...

Re: Looking for reenactment group(North East England.)
The North-East is rich in medieval reenactment groups (my 13th combat group called Dawn of Chivalry for example) but it seems that the lack of answer for your question indicates the 1700's are not well represented. Is it the only period you're after?

Re: Alchemist Re-enactor Project
Henri, I'm not sure what you are referring to. My project is just in the next 12/24 months to be able to have enough knowledge/equipment to be able to propose to any client in the North-east of the UK the re-enactment of an alchemist lab. It has nothing to do with current events, I don't even have a...

Re: Alchemist Re-enactor Project
JW, to answer your question, there are no chemicals that can be mixed that would do this so I think it's more likely to be a trick centered around the containers themselves, with secret compartments for example. Did you have a good look at the containers?

Hello, I'd like to make a Templar shield. I have a conundrum regarding the colours. I have found two medieval images (well, they look medieval to me), supposedly of templars. They show the flag being white at the bottom with a black band at the top. http://www.knightstemplarvault.com/images/beausean...

Painting helmets
Hello,
I have a spare helmet that I'd like to paint with my coat of arms, just as an experiment. Does anybody recommend a paint that is matt, suitable for metal and that does not chip too badly when hit by a sword?
Thanks.
David.

Sorry but as you can see, these are not our events, we are hired by English Heritage and they are in charge of deciding who comes. They usually have no traders in shows taking place on their properties as they have their own shops.

Weapon Stand for Show and Tell
My re-enactment group, like many use weapon stands for your display of weapons. Unfortunately, most (all?) of the designs are made up by ourselves and not necessarily historically authentic. Does anybody know of any medieval illustration in manuscripts that shows weapon stands, ideally 11th-14th cen...
