Polyester Cloak...for vikings.
It goes without saying that polyester is evil incarnate for authenticity, but....can you tell the difference between this and linen in appearance and feel?

After sanding it down, you can't see the join at the side, just looks like the surface of plywood all the way around.

Re: Making a Viking Shield
Ahh, nifty, will give that a try! Will regular elastic straps do or what about those ones with the clicky metal thing? I have to say, I'm really surprised about this shield. When it was just the 6mm plywood, it was a bit bendy and I wasn't so sure it'd be strong enough, but after checking it this mo...

Re: Making a linen belt bag! (or trying to, help!)
I've made like a button toggle out of some spare plywood I had, rounded it out so it looks nice, just wondering how I can attach it to the cloth and sew the hole though! Do I need to drill holes in the toggle and thread it through?

Re: Making a Viking Shield
Progress on the shield today. Ended up on Hurstwic Viking Shields and decided on a 6mm shield, going for a 26" round though, so a bit smaller than the smallest found, thickness still authentic. Cut out the shield and made a handle by sticking 2 bits of 6mm ply together, then cut into a handle shape....

Making a linen belt bag! (or trying to, help!)
I've recently been making a Viking round shield and have quite a lot of leftover linen in sizable chunks from the shield facing, and I got to thinking what I could make out of it. After folding it up, I thought 'hey, I could make a bag out of this if I stitch the sides in! But I haven't stitched any...
