Viking Shieldmaidens

Hello all! I am interested in learning more about Viking Shieldmaidens. I know there is dispute between historians and archaeologists as to whether or not they existed. Can anyone provide links to any of the digs of graves containing supposed shieldmaidens (women buried with amour and weapons)? What...

Re: Leather trousers....

Dear Phil,

It may well be that you are right, and that I am unable to source period trews :(

But, thank you for your help, I appreciate it, and hope we find something as good that is accurate!

Re: Leather trousers....

Well Tod, it really came as a result of my partner watching an old Mike Loades documentary where the two guys doing rapier fighting were in lovely renaissance kit with leather trews, couldnt see how long they were as they had knee length boots on. So Andy decided he'd like some for himself, but Mr L...

Leather trousers....

Hi there, Does anyone know where I could source a good pair of man's leather trousers, preferably accurate fixings (i.e lacing or buttons, not a zip) I did like these ones, but after emailing them 3 time and phoning twice with no result, Ive given up! http://www.thevikingstore.co.uk/costume--brown-l...

Blackening armour

Okay so I am posting this on request of my partner....

Does anyone know how to blacken plate armour, without damaging its integrity, post-forging process?

Sorry if this is a silly question! :$

Underskirts

Hello!!

Where do people buy there hooped crinolines or underskirts from? There are obviously loads on ebay, but often made with horrible fabrics etc

Anyone know a place to buy them with a more authentic look?

Would like to start looking into some high status Royalist Civil War costuming. Firstly, does anyone make this? Or do you know anywhere to hire such costume for the meantime?

Helmet Plume

Hello :D

Not really sure if this is in the right place, but....

Does anybody know where you can get a long black horse hair plume that would be suitable to top an Arabic/Mongolian style helmet?

Cheers

Historical Arabic music

Being a music lover I am always looking for new sounds. Can anybody recommend any good historical music with an arabic or persian style? Im not too fussy about time period, but medieval or earlier would be of particular interest. Would also consider good Indian music and such. This is to add to a gr...

Roman soft kit

As per my post in the buy and sell section, we are looking for Roman soft kit (ie the undergarments and tunic for a man, and undergarments and dress for a woman), quite noble class but nothing overly fancy, for a late booking show. We have kit we can hire if we have no luck, but it seems silly payin...

Roman kit to hire?

Hi again!

Does anybody have and Roman soft kit, such as would be worn by Roman nobles, that they could potentially hire for an event in September? Would need to fit an average size guy and size 12 woman?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Persian/Arabic kit incl. armour

Yes, of course, a period would help (oops)!

Probably sometime 1200's-1400's so it would suit crusading but also later wars such as Vlad vs. Mehmed.

Thanks for the link, btw

Re: Landschneckt Costume - can anybody make one?

I don't want it in blue and white, I would like it in vibrant blue yellow and red. This is to match with a gown that I have (this outfit is for my parnter). I like the simplistic cut of this one, because it will suit the style of martial art which we do. We are qualified in the japanese arts as well...

Hi there, Thanks for replies, very informative. Obviously I don't want a land-snail costume, that would just be really silly! I would definately like period accurate materials, I cant even entertain the idea of modern materials My initial reaction to wool was a definate no-no, because we are qualifi...

Landschneckt Costume - can anybody make one?

Hi there, Does anybody with experience in costume making think that they could have a go at making a landschneckt costume, something like the one in the image? It comes from a sword demonstration video on youtube, the link is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kj4Ng6DBfrg if you want to get a better loo...
