If you're interested in WW1 I run a cavalry troop, always on the look out , although riding is useful, not always required

Re: officers boots

HI, having spent a long time gathering photos of cavalry officers from the Great war, all I can say is you have a great wide range Original boots are available but beware that they all seem to have thin legs!! I have pictures of officers wearing leather gaiters of many forms, puttees, and of course ...

Re: Potential School ban on old gas masks

I know this may seem a simplistic answer, but surely reproduction examples are better? there are several good reproduction gas masks on the market all made from safe materials. For proper authenticity reasons, no army I am aware of issued 100 year old equipment and so old flaky stuff although authen...

Not too sure exactly how it came into use, but from my time in the Air force, all kit has a 'life' ,everything, and would not be replaced until it was expired, lost, or accidentally destroyed, some safety equipment is replaced as soon as is possible (upgraded NBC kit being an example) stuff like web...

Hi glad for the heads up that you exist, we are an independant yeomanry cavalry unit based in Lancashire, working mainly in the Manchester, Wigan, Lancaster triangle, but have contacts with the Gordons and so do spread our wings a wee bit. currently planning our year, and doing ok so far. Re: cavalry training Sat 20/10/2012

We are slowly developing into two troops, the main one being the first world war yeomanry troop (5 male riders at the moment and growing) and the nursing yeomanry for the girls. in reality because we are starting from scratch, we have a bit of a mixed bag turn up every so often,, so we work on as lo...

horses/women a sort of craziness takes over, and reason is lost. I am so glad you said that, the hardest job I have is convincing women that this isn't a pony club, and hence keep it small and tight, I have no problems training alongside the ladies, I have no problem teaching everything we do and full involvement away from the public, but when I see mixed troops ...

The biggest change to kit is the breeches instead of the sd trousers, and the bandolier is a nine pouch one, webbing is not worn to any degree, except for the haversack, obviously post 1915 this included the gas mask, other than that badges (which we do have a supply of) and of course for safety sak...
