Re: HELP!

Many thanks,Brother Ranulf,i take it,then, that Icling would be the correct "title" in a 7th century context, that sorts out one problem on the list anyway  .

HELP!

I know this is an embarrassingly simple question but,i've searched high and low and have never found an answer to it....in relation to the tribal (and therefore dynastic) Mercian name Iclingas,is the singular form Icling or Iclinga,i'm sorry to bother people with this but it is important to me and m...

Hi there!,its great to hear of a new group having set up in the town,i have to admit i didn't even know you existed before now, having just looked at your website i must say the standard of your kit looks particularly good  ,i would have been interesed in the possibility of joining, being pre...

Re: Noob looking for a group in NE England

I know its likely to be outside your period(s) of interest but,Roma Antiqua hold events during the Spring and Summer at Binchester roman fort (Co Durham),they cover the occupation period from the 1st century c.e to the 5th century c.e (plus a stray 7th century East Anglian warrior),why not pop on do...

Re: Runic Ring?

Thanks, everyone  ,yes Matt, that's the one,i was given it as a gift,a bit back,if you reckon i could get away with it,then i'll stick with it,just didn't want to risk being picked up on it by someone at an event,it's cost me a small fortune in new kit and i'd hate to mess it up by getting th...

Runic Ring?

I know that this is going to sound like an obvious question but,i've recently been given a silver finger ring with what is described as a 6th Century (c.e) Danish invocation in runic script on the outer face and,i was wondering, did such rings exist in the later 6th Century (570,to be exact),it's jus...

Re: Dead?

I knew Ian from waay back, and saw him a couple of years ago at Binchester and If my memory serves me (which is pretty doubtful), it may have been your group. His health wasn't good at the time - so he may well have retired from re-enactment. Didn't know any of the others from his group - sorry... ...

Crossbow Fibula

Having just taken on the persona of the Praefectus of a light cavalry Cuneus,Northern Britain,420 C.E,and, having just received a Silver "Crossbow Fibula",i was wondering, apart from the obvious (i.e cloak),is there any part of my kit where it could be pinned?,the only thing that springs to ...

Re: New group wanted N/E England

Thanks very much Phoenix :) ,yes,if you could send me some details,i'd be very interested, though,at the moment,it's a case of curiosity,as i'm still wondering quite what to do,i.e go solo or join a group (that, and the fact my kit is in need of,er...attention,given i've recently changed periods),than...

Just as a matter of interest,Squire John, does your group cover the early 7th Century C.E,as well?.

Re: Help-my sword needs a name!

Thanks very much everyone, for all the replies  ,having had a good look over them (and consulted with my good friend,Noggin, the Nog),i've decided to go with Aed's suggestion of Hwitgada as it goes well with the "mirror finish" of the blade, now all i need is a Lord who wants a few w...

Ah!,but that would be Old 'artlepool (i.e,the headland),where i come from is the victorian "new town" (West Hartlepool,as was),no monkeys round this neck of the woods (as far as i know, anyway),still,i'll pass this one on to the good folk over there and beat a hasty retreat straight after :...

Help-my sword needs a name!

I've just received my new "spatha" (though i won't be getting it 'till christmas :( ) and, being a late 6th/early 7th century weapon,it should really have a personal name so,i was wondering, could anybody suggest something suitable in a Northumbrian context and,of course,in old english, that ...
