Re: How often do you want us to visit?

Personally, I'd like to thank you, Cal, for inviting me back... it's been a very long time since I visited this board, and I can appreciate how difficult it must feel to see your hard work going unutilised to it's fullest.

So, thanks for that! (and I'll just ignore any more email reminders :? )

Re: Storing medieval dyes

What a good question! I have used chopped madder which I bought in bulk, to dye wool in a cauldron over a fire in demonstrations at events. Re: Tudor bonnets

The 'Statute Cap' was declared de rigeur in 1597, so it was most likely still around by the mid-1600's. So, not just a 'knotism'!

Eeek! Medieval embroidery for beginners ? Yikes, if that's for beginners, I can't imagine the advanced stuff... but still, it is beautiful to look at! Thanks for the link to your pinterest site.

Re: Vanity screens?

Slightly off topic, but was there not such a thing as "rood screens", erected at the entrances of great halls, a kind of elaborate lattice work... they provided a momentary delay, in case of attack, so the inhabitants could gather their weapons to defend themselves. We still see the final ...

Re: Female headcoverings

Here is a link to a site which has a good basic pattern which I found works very well.

slumberland.org/sca/articles/how_to_make_a_wimple.pdf

... or Google ''How to make a wimple'' and it takes to you a number of how-to sites.

 Those links get a '404 Page Not Found' message, but you can follow the link to the British Library HOme page. Copy the address of the images you want to look at, though, so you can 'Search' for them on their page.

Re: How do you wash six sheepskins?

You can try that... or work it with saddle soap to loosen it up? (If glycerine is one of the ingredients in the saddle soap, there'd be no need to re-wet it? Not sure) My friend washes the sheepskin rugs she uses on the floors of her house in the machine on a normal wool wash. She says she has to co...

photos too large

I am trying to attach an avatar picture of myself to my profile, but they all seem to be too large. How can I make one smaller to meet the 100 x 100 pixel size requirements...

Tablet woven woolen tape wanted

I am looking for a supplier (preferably located in the UK) of woven 1/2" to 3/4" tapes. I would need around 8 yards. Is there anyone on the board who can supply this? Many thanks, in advance.
