I think that the most common way to make strong rope was to use lindenbast.
You will find some good info at the Viking Ship Museum, Roskilde, website.
Your link to the cord making info....not sure how 'old' this Method is....it may well be a modern re-enactorism

The Tonsberg ship in the video is a reconstruction of the Oseberg Viking ship and is just over 21 metres long.
