1620s women's clothing
So I'm finding it very hard to find images or sewing patterns for the 1620-30s. Can anyone point me towards any good blogs or sites? Even if it just shows construction. I want to aim for something Constance Bonacieux from the three musketeers might have worn. Every time I search for Stuart era I jus...

Weekend Warriors
So I saw a trailer for Weekend Warriors on 'Yesterday' by chance http://yesterday.uktv.co.uk/shows/weekend-warriors/ I watched it. As someone who is a wannabe re-enactor (but can't find the right combo of era, location and authenticity to make it viable) it was interesting they showed behind the sce...

Kirtle advice and help
So I've had a craving to make a tudor outfit since I bought a copy of tudor tailor and I think my skills are finally up to it. But I wondered if you could advise me on a few ideas I had... I like the 1520-1530's styles in particular. It was the henrican gowns that stood out at me. http://i1176.photo...

Circlet
Hi can anyone reccomend me a good tutorial on making a circlet. I've found several 'how to make a LOTR circlet' but nothing from a historical POV. I have some wire, pliers and metal 'leaf shapes'. But not quite sure how to put it all together. The cosplay ones have gaps at back and are pinned in wit...

Re: Lunch?
I've got a 'saddle type' handbag (modern) do you think that would 'pass'? Its comicon but I do want to try and get close enough to historical so it doesn't look like cheap fancy dress.
Re: Lunch?
This is going to sound a random question. But if you were travelling or spending the whole day 'out' how would a lady carry her lunch? There is a reason for this question and you'll probably laugh at me. But I'm going to a comicon and its so expensive to buy food there I need to take a packed lunch...

Re: Naval Spencer Jacket - help needed!
I'm making myself a spencer in blue velvet with a white lining and gold buttons. I want it to reflect a naval uniform. But I'm stuck on the gold braid. What type? How do I apply it and where? Should I pipe the jacket seams? I've been googling images but can't find a consistent style…was it a bit fr...

Details about Kentwell here . Best event is the June/July one as that is when the largest number of things are happening. Open to the public on the weekends. Re: Aprons...
I spin standing, but I suspect if you're getting lots of whispy bits falling off its a combination of, a, you just need to improve your technique, and b, the fibre you're using isn't of the best quality. Often when begginers are given free fibres to practice on they're not of the best quality, and ...
Aprons...
I was wondering when spinning in the past what kind of apron was used? Any particular fabric?
I'm fed of getting flyaway fibre all over my lap and want to know what the proper historical option was.

Jamaica Inn - BBC1
Watched the first episode yesterday. Set in 1821. Struggled understanding the dialogue at first...had to turn the volume up. Its seems like an awfully muddy place...I hate to think of the laundry 'aunt patience' would have to do with maryellen(?) always getting muddy hems. Not convinced by the loose...

I wonder if you can advise me where to start. There seems to be a plethera of options and types.
I have vague recollection of a school trip (dressed as tudors) where we got to have a go with one. But its all pretty vague.
Do certain types suit certain eras?

http://www.18cnewenglandlife.org/18cnel/women.html Is a good read, it is based upon the research from the US for about the 1780-90 period, but reading it and comparing it to pictures from military camps and the life in Yorkshire pictures below you can see the similarities http://www.maggieblanck.co...

There was a lot of people in historical costume at the beginning. Filmed at the Chalke Valley Literary Festival last year. Anyone else see any of these programs. I managed to catch the one on Music. Which I found quite informative. And one about versailles...which was kind of a historical docudrama?

Working class lady - Clothing layers
Hi so I'm having a go at making a lower class outfit (I have lots of posh regency frocks already). I have stays, 1 petticoat and a mantau de lit. Is there any other layers I need? I'm aiming for nearer the end of the 1700's, beginning of 1800s. For footwear I have my dancing clogs.
