Serenisimo Tribunal

de l'Inquisithion

 The Serenisimo Tribunal de l'Inquisithion (= Ancient Venetian State Inquisition) is a cultural association founded in 1993 to celebrate the history of Venice. The association sponsors festivals and pageants commemorating renowned personages and events in the glorious history of the Repubblica Serenissima di Venezia.

Re-enactments for the schools in Doge's Palace

Basing on historical research and presented in authentic costumes, the Tribunal's re-enactments recreate the Venice of the therteenth to eighteenth centuries. Spectators are invited to become participans, to be transported back and spend time in Middle-age or Renaissance world.

1300 in Venice

Since 1993 the association has organized all the major re-enactments given in St. Mark's Square during Venetian Carnival season. Its events have been featured in numerous Italian and international television broadcasts by the major Italian and Germans networks, Telemontecarlo and the Russian state broadcasting system.

Featured performers have included Marcello Mastroianni, Katia Ricciarelli, Dario Fo, Mara Venier and Peter Gabriel.

 

The Doge's Court

For its efforts in promoting awareness of current problems facing the city, the Serenisimo Tribunal de l'Inquisithion has received a number of awards, including the Insignia of the Repubblic of Italy, presented to the association by the Prefect of Venice, Corrado Scivoletto.

Living History (1490)

The Tribunal's company present in his shows a tipical Venetian Dogal Delegation, with the Ambassador, the Inquisitors, the Procurators of St. Mark, the Officers and Soldiers and some craftsmen - smith, shields maker, tanner, coiner, tailor, scribe, etc - that re-enact in a small camp the typical life of an ancient military company.

The Serenisimo Tribunal de l'Inquisithion is memebr of CERS-Union of European Historical Companies.
