As part of the Stowe at War events, Harry & Edna identified wartime architecture still within Stowe's grounds.
The images opposite where taken in 2004 and include;
The entrance to one of the remaining air raid shelters. One of the surviving wartime Nissan huts. Built by the army to store equipment for use on D-Day. The huts are mentioned in " Army at Stowe". The firing range used during the war by the Home Guard later used by the Schools Army Cadets. The last remaining bomb crater mentioned in Stowe's wartime history. Queens Temple, Stowe's archaeologist said there was a shooting range in front of the steps to the Queens Temple. When he excavated the base of vertical sleepers & blanks shells were found. On the boarder of the parkland a POW camp was built. The site is now a dogs home but some of the POW buildings are still intact.
