Becoming a part of Conroi de Vey

Conroi de Vey is an historical re-enactment group based in Nottingham specialising in recreating Anglo-Saxon and Norman life as accurately and authentically as we can. We are part of the nationwide Early Middle Ages re-enactment society Regia Anglorum.

As a member of Conroi de Vey, and through us Regia Anglorum, you can attend national events throughout the country with hundreds, and sometimes thousands of other re-enactors as well as more close knit local events. Our group owns authentic tents and a work shelter where we live during these events. The evening camaraderie at these events, once the public have gone home, is a most enjoyable part of the day. It is time to relax round the fire with a glass (yes, they had glass) or two of mead and tell stories or play silly games. It is this aspect of re-enactment that re-enactors hold especially dear.

Regia Anglorum also owns a site in Kent called Wychurst, where a Saxon Burh is being built by the members. You can visit this site during one of the regular work weekends and add your own skills to the project, or develop some new ones.

Our Living History Exhibit (LHE) is where our group is especially strong. We encourage our members to learn all they can about the period by watching and listening to more experienced people and having a go at the crafts and even attending night classes. Our craft demonstrations use only those tools, techniques and materials that would have been available and familiar to the people of the period.

If you wish to take part in our combat displays, you will train regularly to improve your skills and ensure that you are safe. New members start with a two handed spear and shield and then progress to training with other weapons used in the period. Those with the right aptitude can go on to be battle field commanders.

We are always ready to welcome new members and if you would like to take part in any of the above activities why not join us. Previous experience is not needed. Membership of Conroi de Vey is open to families and individuals. It includes full membership of Regia Anglorum. Members under 16 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for all of our activities, warriors under 18 years of age are subject to restrictions.
