April 25, myself and Joram are planning to run a 13thC joust with each other. Solid timber lances, steel coronels and at large (no tiltline).

Putting the gear together.

Some pics of my harness as it stands today.

I still need to make the rivetted mufflers and to replace the coif with a rivetted intergral coif.

Not sure if I will get time to re-do my chausses in rivetted mail.

My barrel helm is being made at the moment, so I had to pose in my Norman helm.

I'll get Joram to post some pics of his 13thC harness as well.

My Peter Lyon sword and laced scabbard.

Hi, we will have early coats of plates over the mail.

We are doing this at my St Georges Day Jousts. The jousts are being filmed by a docu. crew.

Great stuff. What diameter and type of wood are you planning on using, and what design of coronels? The Tudor solids we use give a right big thump when used, but I've noticed that the way they handle and break varies a lot with the weather - they shatter much more briskly and more cleanly in dry weather than on a damp morning on Pendennis headland for example. Looks like you'll have sunshine to do it over there. Can't wait to see the footage, best of luck! Kit looks brilliant too.

The whole image is more 11th century than 13th though still nice to see

There are some nice 13th bits but for example the helmet and coif are far too early for any knight to be using.

Hi Jason, I have had good results with pine, so I'll be making some up to test this weekend. My coronel is back at the armourers being so he can make more of them.

The beauty of 13thC lances is that they are straight sided and not overly thick. We are thinking something around 32mm diameter.

Except the photos are in response to a request for them, so Rod took them with what was available. I'm dead impressed. The cahones needed to solid lance joust in maille is considerable to say the least.

And the photos, with the accompanying explanation of changes needed is something most of us do.

Dead excited Rod, keep us updated.

I'm sure Nigel will be posting pics any day now of himself armoured up and mounted up to do a joust??

If you had bothered to read the text you would have seen that the helm and coif were just for these pics as the new ones are being made.

So, as the helm and coif are the only pieces of 11thC kit and the rest is 13thC than I guess you are wrong and that makes the photos above more 13th century than 11th.

Horse caprison of that style in the 11th century - not a chance

Mail chause of that style in the 11th century- not a chance

Surcoat in the 11th century (by Dr Dawson's own research) - not a chance

Sword - definatly post 11th century

Shield - spot on

Helm - barrel helm being constructed as Rod stated

Saddle and harness look great, but if I'm wrong, someone correct me

Looking good - would like to see it with the finished helm + mufflers. Are you going the whole hog and making the mufflers integral too?

Whats under your feet? Is that mail covering the sole too?

Certainly am. Making the coif now.

The mail on the chausses is attached to a leather sole, I also have a thin turnshoe inside the chausses.

Thanks for posting the photos; they're great, can't wait to see the next lot! I'd love to try out a medieval style saddle, but would give the jousting a miss, especially with a solid lance :shock:

Number 2 envious of you for what From what I ahve hear youa re pretty average jsut like your kit

I knwow a lot of jousters and am proud to call some of them my friends and thyw jhave immacualte kit

As for my own kit Iam secure enought o know it represents exactly what it is meant to and I dont need to dipaly it

And youre pretty brave all that way away

Yep, agree completely.

Same reason I wouldn't post piccies on here of my kit unless it was completely on spec, without expecting and being able to accept any negative comments on the iffy bits

Mine isn't as good as it could be but is being overhauled yet again at the moment, with more evidence being made available continuously I doubt I'll ever be happy with it though :roll:

Gentlemen, kit will never be perfect and constructive remarks on what needs doing is always appreciated.

Trollboy came straight in being a rather unpleasant chap. I've seen him do it on other threads and had the pleasure of his trolling when I asked for if anyone had patterns for sale for Napoleonic kit.
